Varsity Virtual Gamer League

Prelims are running now leading up to our first tournaments Fall of 2018

 

Learn skills that will be in need for tomorrow. VR is changing industry from manufacturing with Microsoft’s hololens to clinical psychology inside the HTC VIVE.  Varsity VR is offering camps over the summer to jump start you into the main elements needed to build VR experiences.

Only 12 spots are available for each camp. These spots may fill up quickly so make sure to register as soon as you can. If we find that we need more spots for any of the camps we will work to accommodate.

A student attending any Varsity VR  camps should want to actively learn. This will be a very fast paced environment that will require students that want to get into these skills. We won't have time for those that only want to play games. We are makers and producers so we will be creating experiences.

Then we can play them.

Along with a "want" to create, the student will need to choose a track in animating 3D models or creating experiences through programming in a AAA gaming engine.

We will accept students that will be attending 8th through 12 grade in the fall of 2018.

Students from any high school can attend. Anyone outside of the Cedars charter will need to pay a $100 fee for each camp attended.

Cedars International students are able to attend all three camps for free.

JUNE

Intro to Game Coding/3D Modeling (Foundation/Advanced)

When: June 13th thru 15th / 10am to 3pm      

Where: @ Cedars International High School Great Room

Provided: 12 Alienware laptops and Unreal Engine 4   

Not Provided: each student will need to provide their own lunch and snacks.

Prerequisite: None

This clinic will introduce two elements needed for any VR experience.  

TRACKS

Coding FOUNDATIONS (VR Coaster) - an introduction to the visual scripting language, Blueprint, in Unreal Engine 4. Blueprint is a powerful visual scripting language created for the Unreal Engine that is used by Game Devs all over the world.   Students will learn the basics of Blueprint with the final product being a VR Rollercoaster with special effects!

Coding ADVANCED (Multiplayer BP)-Using blueprints to create a low level multiplayer environment, we'll use a multiplayer dueling experience to understand how the server and client interact. We'll alter blueprints to allow for VR interaction and expand the dueling game.

3D Modeling FOUNDATIONS(Sculpt)-Using Maya, each modeling student will learn the basics to create basic 3D assets as well as applying materials and textures.

JULY

Foundation Courses & Advanced

When: July 9th thru 11th / 10am to 3pm

Where: @ Cedars International High School Great Room

Provided: 12 Alienware laptops, Unreal Engine 4 and some pre-generated and animated assets.

Not Provided: each student will need to provide their own lunch and snacks.

Prerequisite: None for Foundations however, for Coding Advanced I and 3D Modeling Animation, the foundations course is needed to understand this content. 

TRACKS

Coding FOUNDATIONS (VR Coaster) - an introduction to the visual scripting language, Blueprint, in Unreal Engine 4. Blueprint is a powerful visual scripting language created for the Unreal Engine that is used by Game Devs all over the world.   Students will learn the basics of Blueprint with the final product being a VR Rollercoaster with special effects!

Coding FOUNDATIONS(VR Grab and HUD)-Using Blueprints  we will add new elements to our VR worlds by adding interaction with motion controllers. Adding your hands into VR adds so much to an experience. We'll create a wave style snowball fight or add on further functionality to your VR Coaster. We'll also learn to add in Scoring and

Coding ADVANCED I(C++)-We'll be using Visual Studio to expose Blueprints to C++ and make some changes using the base language for Unreal. We'll be looking to create the beginnings of multiplayer using C++ as well.

3D Modeling FOUNDATIONS(Sculpt)-Using Maya, each modeling student will learn the basics to create basic 3D assets as well as applying materials and textures.

3D Modeling ADVANCED(Animation)-Continuing with Maya, the student will rig and animate a figure to move through a walk and idle cycle.

AUGUST

When: August 6th thru 8th / 10am to 3pm

Where: @ Cedars International High School Great Room

Provided: 12 Alienware laptops, Unreal Engine 4 & some pre-generated and animated assets.

Not Provided: each student will need to provide their own lunch and snacks.

Prerequisite: None for Foundations however, for Multi-Player coding and 3D Modeling Animation, the foundations course is needed to understand this content.

Coding FOUNDATIONS(VR locomotion and Keys)-Using Blueprints we'll add different types of locomotion to our VR character. We'll look at creating teleportation, blink and artificial locomotion. We'll create a VR escape game where you'll need to move through obstacles to collect keys and escape.

Coding ADVANCED II(Multiplayer C++)-We'll be using Visual Studio and C++ to create multiplayer networking for two VR players including a lobby, map choice, character selection and chat.

3D Modeling FOUNDATIONS(Sculpt)-Using Maya, each modeling student will learn the basics to create basic 3D assets as well as applying materials and textures.

3D Modeling ADVANCED(Animation)-Continuing with Maya, the student will rig and animate a figure to move through a walk and idle cycle.
